mews garage conversion
the project is set on quiet cobbled mews just minutes from Kensington Gardens. it involved the transformation of a small dilapidated garage into an ultra-efficient contemporary house. the planners required any new building to retain the footprint and height of the original garage, so the design required a new basement to create a usable home.
the five principles of passive house and low embodied energy materials were used wherever possible. the house re-used many materials from its industrial origins, blending reclaimed brick walls and timber cladding with considered interventions and a craft-inspired modern aesthetic.
